Qualified Investigator: Dr. David Yan, MD, FRCS(C)
Research Description: Glaucoma causes damage to the optic nerve and may cause blindness if untreated. It is usually associated to elevated pressure in the eye caused from malformation or malfunction of the drainage structures of the eye. There are many types of glaucoma but may be divided into “open angle” and “closed angle” glaucoma.
Open angle glaucoma is the most common. Open angle usually progresses slower. It has been called the “silent thief of sight” until there is a significant amount of vision loss.
Closed angle may be sudden and painful with vision loss quickly. Patients seek medical attention quickly and this helps to avoid permanent damage to the optic nerve.
